What Cliff is High is missing is that these aliens never left lol. They've been here for at least 500 000 years. In the old days they openly walked among us and created those same silly religions people still worship these beings as gods.
It won't quite be that simple. I've been thinking that humans need to continue their spiritual work even after aliens show up. We have to still be aware of our own perceptions and desires. We need to remember that what we see, even with all the new fancy technology, is not who we are. Buddhism or something similar is still going to be relevant. Otherwise, we will just set our own death traps for ourselves.
But, yeah, there are going to be a lot of questions asked about religions soon when disclosure happens.
It's a close call but I think enough people are ready.
