If you believe that affection is the result of receptors that are part of the physical body, than leaving the body means to lose all capability for having affection.

All ISBEs outside of bodies would be psychopaths, devoid of empathy.

So, here's something to think about:

You love your daughter, right? Now imagine you are forced inside a body that is not capable of expressing emotions.

This is only true if you are not violently forced to inhabit a body you didn't choose.

Why do I think that Greys are an abomination? At least the kind I'm familiar with. Because they are traumatized ISBEs forced into bodies that don't allow them to express themselves.

They are literally walking prisons.

So, the question whether you can pet the aliens is not funny at all. Your daughter doesn't know, but you should.
