I have to say I think this is one of the loveliest prisons to be in if I had a choice. I also find our local 'neighbors' to be far friendlier and less hostile than I was first expected. Things could have been a lot more warlike and feuding with races planet-busting one another.
Perhaps that took place in the past, but the currently state of affairs seems to be peaceful for the most part.
Anyway, according to the book Alien Interview, the source of this target-information, it was described that there remain a number of hidden installations that make up the 'trap system'. One was in the large hidden base on Mars that the beings from The Domain allegedly destroyed in 1914 (thought to have been the last of the 'old empire/jailer' bases.) It kind of seems the destruction of at least one installation has weakened the system, as there are some souls not being trapped presently. Most still seem to be falling for the 'warm welcoming light-tunnel' trap, but some are now also going around it.
We still don't know why in some places souls are presented with 'trap route-options' while others have no such route-options upon dying, simply willing themselves wherever they wish to go, needing no route (perhaps not an option before the system was weakened?)
I currently suspect ALL 'route options' presented are in fact manufactured routes, as an energy being may simply will themselves wherever they wish to go and need no such routes. So when you, yourself, die, take none of the tunnel/road/doorways presented and you will avoid the trap system.
