Unlike the symbol on the modern Mexican flag represents polarity. Along the lines of Yin/Yang, Positive/Negative, Above/Below. I could be wrong though.

In Peru this god was called Amaru and the inhabited territory known as Amaruca which became "America" as we know it today. South Amaruca, North Amaruca. America!
