Treating the planet recklessly as you say is an understatement.
Man is known to willfully pollute the underground water table with carcinogenic compounds, then have his brother drink the polluted water; and afterwards act surprised about the increases in the rate of cancers in the polluted areas. And now we are asking for proposals on where to drill for oil in the pristine artic circle. Let's not forget that for man, it's not a big deal that the lungs of the planet have been burning non-stop in Brazil for quite a while.
That's why Lacerta kept reminding us that as far as intelligence levels are concerned, we are not too far away from ours ancestors who were just little tree-climbing simians, and we would probably still be climbing trees today if it were not for the Elohims who came and sped up our evolution.
But in spite of all these shortcomings, there is some hope for man as you said. I got this understanding not too long ago at a time when I was at a crossroad... The hope is Farsight and friends, you, me and some 3 to 4% of the population that are here for that. So it's worthwhile to stick around for the ride, in spite of the fact that sometime it is a pretty dumb and stupid one.
