Huge Alan Watts fan - and I am very close to the philosophy that you have just posted by him. Very thoughtful man ! I think the Christian God made by our thoughts and philosophies is Human centric.
But like the human centric thinking that everything (once thought) goes around the Earth and the Human (male mostly) is the great creation of God and Eve made from a rib and on it goes. Is it a creation (likely with Alien influence) made by someone to create a "God" to temper the violent tendencies of the human species ? It is something tailored to influence a society ? And perhaps it wasn't a bad idea at the time.
We can only understand what our minds can cope with. And if its too complex, it is of no use to us. So God had to be made into a father figure. Do we need a 2.0 on religions ? - yes ! Perhaps no formal religion would be great.
Just a personal one is needed and this would take away the power structure around religion.
And perhaps Source should be used instead of God. As "God" carries with it such history and politics as well.
I wonder if an idea that God is an AI is closer to the truth -but then again that is our technology now so of course I would grasp at what ever made sense today to explain Source god.
Big subject and Great post !
"We can only understand what our minds can cope with."
I want to disagree. How do you know what your mind can cope with beforehand? I agree that the mind can't cope with everything at once – but what if your mind can cope with everything eventually, over time? Isn't remote viewing a wonderful example of how the mind is able to evolve?
"Is it a creation (likely with Alien influence) made by someone to create a "God" to temper the violent tendencies of the human species ?"
I own a dictionary of German legalese, and the definition of God in that dictionary is very interesting. It's hard to translate, but it goes something like this:
God is the being with superhuman powers that is standing above humans and is worshipped by humans.
The interesting thing is that that definition also fits for every alien species that is more powerful than humans. They are standing above (coming from above) and often were worshipped as Gods. So in legalese, the german version at least, everyone who is more powerful than others is a God (including psychopaths).
So, the concept of God is interwoven with the concept of power and control, and where there is power, there must also be the potential of abuse.
For me, God is not the power or controller itself, he's just creating the potential (positive and negative).
At this point, I have to recommend the presentation Cosmic Abandonment by Mark Passio. I think I already did that some time ago, but his stuff is eye opening in so many regards, so here we go again:
Hello
Whether one believes there is a God of any sort, or if probability rules a mechanical universe, there is one constant.
That is human thought.
The ideas that are conceived about a creation that noone can remember experiencing, rely on 'thinking' about the stories we have been told.
Human thought is a mysterious phenomenon that has several unique qualities that our culture has only vagely defined.
The 'intellect' is the 'workhorse' of modern cognition. Since the 16th century, the intellect has fine tuned logic and reason at the expense of all other types of cognition.
In our practical world our 'imagination' has been relegated to music and the art gallery where the necessity for human creativity is been co-opted by the intellect to include a narrative to explain itself logicaly.
Imagiation is sometimes interpreted as a random generator of images and, or ideas that are ruled by 'laws of probability'.
All creation stories, at the micro or macro scale, are by their very nature, 'imaginative'.
There are at least two other types of cognition that can be experienced.
Both resist intellectual definition until expressed imaginatively. They are known as 'inspiration' and 'intuition'.
The wisdom contained in the myths and legends of ancient cultures suggests that inspiration and intuition may have once been more instinctive cognitive processes than they are today.
Nevertheless, inspiration and intuition are still possible today and may be the font of every original thought and experience. ♡
More than that... who can say?
This sounds a lot like Derivative-Work following the writings of Julian Jaynes, author of The Break-Down of the Bi-Cameral Mind, but, ultimately, all of existence revolves around Frequencies, whether be they sound-frequencies, light-frequencies, radio-wave-frequencies, etc.; I cannot think of any «logical-reason» why frequencies would be absent in some form or another in any form of existence (and, according to what I think is known as the Dual-Brane Theory in Astronomy, its evidence suggests that this universe originally existed as a micro-wave universe until matter and solid-material started forming via particle-collisions starting from around 13.8 billion years ago, how-ever, the James-Webb Telescope has put the theory of the age of this universe to question, due to having observed galaxies which are apparently older than the age of this very universe itself, causing quite a stir in the industry of astronomy).
Derivative work, any frequency beyond sense perception or dual-brane theory are all 'ideas' created by thinking. My point is that for human beings, the phenomena of thought must exist before any logic or reason can be applied.
It is easy to, not only, take it for granted, but also to 'imagine' that we 'know' things that will one day exist in the same catagory as the earth centric universe.
... and where do any new ideas come from anyway?
The Harvey interviews are an interesting phenomenon: A 'non-physical being' putting thoughts into a human being's mind. It's reasuring that Harvey at least waits for a question. I'm not sure all non-physical beings are that polite.
