In the context of restoring lost memories, let's talk about the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode titled "Equilibrium".

In that episode, Jadzia Dax, who is a Trill in a symbiotic relationship with a "symbiont" inside her body, starts to access lost memories from one of the symbiont's past lifes she didn't know before.
The interesting thing about that episode is how similar the symbiont-host relationship is to the ISBE-body relationship. The symbiont is a symbol for the ISBE inside the body, the host is a symbol for the physical body. When the host dies, the symbiont survives and can choose to live another life in another body.
In the episode, it is revealed that the memories of the forgotten past life were suppressed by manipulating the communication between the symbiont and the host. The solution plays out as follows, quote from the episode:
Dr. Renhol: "For Jadzia to survive, we have to stabilize the synaptic functions between the host and symbiont. Joran's memories have to be allowed to surface, to reintegrate with Dax's other memories. Could be very dangerous."
Sisko: "Jadzia is a strong woman, I say we give her that chance."
Dr. Renhol: "What if you're wrong? What if Joran's personality overwhelms Jadzia? Are you willing to risk that?"
Sisko: "The point is: It's not up to me or you to decide. It's her life, and her decision."
What then is shown is very interesting, quote from Memory Alpha:
"After her recovery, Jadzia visits the Caves of Mak'ala again and enters one of the birthing pools. A symbiont approaches her and sends its electrical communication to her. Joran emerges from the pool and Jadzia invites him to become a part of her. They hug and he vanishes into her with an electrical surge, awakening the memories from his host period in Jadzia and Dax once again."
So, I had the idea that maybe it's not up to a single person to heal their loss of memories. Maybe it can only be done if we heal each other? And Farsight already demonstrated that:
In the Essassani Resistance Movement project, Yeme is talking telepathically to a member of the movement, Subject K, starting at timestamp 44:30:

But the really interesting part is at 49:38, quote:
Subject K: "Some of us are just wanting to reconstruct ourselves."
Yeme: "Are you fighting against this slavery?"
Subject K: "Every single day. It is embedded into our very existence. It takes time, even for our kind, to move against the confines and constraints of our mind. As it has been with us since birth. It's all we know... but I know differently."
Yeme: "Who is the highest level group controlling the slavery?" She explains: "It feels like this is in a part of his mind that keeps getting rebooted. He is pushing through everyday to break this jail within himself."
Now it's getting even more interesting:
Yeme: "I'm gonna go into his memories, a century ago, centuries ago. He is... He's much much smaller, younger, child. He's very afraid. There are these creatures with wings. They do not look like him [...] and they take him, amongst others. They took everyone, changed their genetic code, rebooted their minds like computers, and placed them back onto their planet. The energy and beings of this space have completely changed, as did their offspring. It recoded their whole genetics. My friend here was one of the original, he almost does not remember, but he knows something. He is fighting for his freedom."
She then goes back to telepathically communicate with him:
Yeme: "Did you see what I just saw?"
Subject K: "Yes. I had known, but it was never so clear before. You seemed to have tapped into a part of my mind that had been erased or pushed back, and now... I remember."
Conclusion:
Yeme helped Subject K to remember by taking him with her, like a piggyback ride. He couldn't do it alone.
Maybe that's the "Equilibrium" we should aim for...
