"One is not entirely «free» when they feel «compelled» or are «driven by never-ending thoughts» that lead them into action or when «thoughts» get «stuck in one's head» (like an ear-worm), but, directing the «victim» into potentially acting out harmful-activities..."
There's a movie that shows how it's done correctly. The movie is called "The Innocents":

In that movie, there's a scene where the children connect to the autistic child to calm her mind. This is essentially how a telepathic therapist would do it. I can highly recommend this movie, it's a fantastic play about parenting, social ignorance, and the ethical issues arising from telepathic and telekinetic powers.
If you don't have access to a telepathic therapist, you can also work with music (because all telepathy essentially is music). Here's a perfect example of how music can be used to "declutter" a cluttered mind:
This type of music, often labeled as "psychill", works like a defragmentation of your brain. It always follows the same pattern: The first half (up to two thirds) reflects the confusion and connects certain brainwaves to certain sounds. Then there's a point were it all gets connected in a greater pattern – it's hard to describe in words. It's an "all makes sense" moment, opening your mind to a higher peace and thus enabling meditation.
And it doesn't work if you take drugs – there's a strong movement to combine this kind of music with drugs to replace the natural declutter effect with fake feelings and illusions. If you need drugs to see it, you don't see it.
