Sorry I have a habit of starting a new thread on the same topics instead of just building on the same thread that started it. Anyways, a couple times now I mentioned this "ancient civilization" I feel I was a part of. It could be just a big delusion, a figment of my imagination who knows. it can at least make for an interesting piece of fiction.
Anyhow, I remember a federation.
I call it Nalakki federation and the creatures Nalinaks. I have no idea if this is an accurate name. I may have just picked something as a place holder so that I have a name for them. But anyhow, why not share it. I'll attempt to be at least somewhat organized in my description so here goes.
Politics.
It was not a large federation. A few star systems. The reason why it’s called a federation is because it was several nations which all share a similar philosophy. They were largely dominated by a single race, perhaps because it was just the preferred genetic makeup for everyone in the federation. But there were indeed deviations.
The federation had serious problem with its organization, but its central theme did remain fairly consistent for a long time.
The center of the federation was on a fairly stable planet, but largely corporatized. A Nation was only part of the federation if it paid tax. But “payment” of tax was very vague and quite negotiable. The general idea was that one twelfth of the nation’s resource should be the tax, but a lot of interpretations were acceptable as far as payment. Perhaps it would serve as a part of the military, helping to defend. Perhaps it would provide solar energy from one of its stars. Perhaps it would manufacture a product which it provides. Whatever the case a new nation would draft a contract as to its meets and bounds, whom its representatives are, and what would its tax be. The republic would negotiate if they felt the proposal was insufficient, and would institute fines if the nation would breach agreements. But it was far from efficient or reliable. There were endless squabbles about whether the terms were sensible. Each nation would bring a representative that would serve as part of the republic. So obviously, that representative would always vote in the nation’s best interest. The vote also counted as the percentage of the federation that the nation would take up. So one nation that took up a third of the federation in terms of space and resource would have a third of the vote (but also pay a “third” of all the taxes collected in theory), and a nation that was one tenth of a tenth of a tenth of the territory would get that much of a vote, and in theory contribute that much of the total assets in taxes.
How a nation wanted to elect its officials was really up to the nation. Officials could entirely legally bribe their way to the top, or some nations allowed the best combatant to get to the top, or some allowed the one scoring the highest on a calculation test to rule, some were based on the election by land owners (the more land you owned the more vote you had), or by majority vote of ISBEs (even the criminals). A few even just did the equivalent of drawing random straws. There was no set rule to how you could do it but you had to do some system and have a representative. The republic also controlled byways, and held sacred the idea that one can “exit” anywhere they want at any time.
While nations had all sorts of different strategies around policing their own citizens, the republic policed its nations with a sort of competitive policing market. Anyone could start an auditing and policing company, they just needed the nomination of two other audit/police agencies. They could compete for money by trying to find fault in nations.
It was actually often a huge mess in places but it somehow managed to keep ticking and the individual cultures of nations tended to remain fairly consistent.
Nature
The Nalinaks were short stocky creatures with fairly reptilian skin, but they were in no way the “conquerer” types that we see depicted of reptilians today. They were jumpy, kind of spineless, and easily afraid. If you were to set off a bomb in the middle of a market square, you could be guaranteed the vast majority would be running in terror, abandoning their own children and selfishly thinking of their own lives. But they weren’t particularly vengeful against one another. Trying to get oneself deliberately into any sort of dangerous or precarious situation was terrifying to them. They were quite affectionate, but a bit absent-minded about the suffering of others. They did however utilize a lot of debt based agreement. If you were in debt, it would easily become public knowledge and although it was hard to really get enforcement as far as collecting a debt, no one was a big fan of having a reputation of remaining in debt for long.
Physiology
Brief head to toe,
there were two little protrusions right near the top of the head that were crystalline. You could call them “horns” or “antennae” but they were flat, only a few millimeters protruding from the skin. They emitted light and one could have an electronic device which relays information as a sort of “li-fi” from these protrusions. It was common to see them wearing some kind of electronic headgear that communicates with the protrusions. You could have very large devices with all sorts of gizmos or just a small “beret” style device, and so on.
Eyes were kind of large, and nose was a bulge with two slits, mouth was also small and curved a bit like a snout but very round. Jaw was not full of jagged teeth. More like human mouths.
Perineum was quite unique in that the tail didn’t serve as a means of balance like with most animals. It instead curved toward the belly, serving as an enclosure for the perineum. Defecation, urination, and copulation all required the relaxation and uncurving of the tail. In normal activity, the tail would remain rigidly enclosing and served as armor. The body was robust enough that we could walk through a thorny bush with no clothes and not be really scathed. It’s not like we were invincible though. I’m sure something like a velociraptor would be capable of immediately chomping us dead not so different than with any human. The other unique feature of the perineum was the male penis didn’t really stiffen with erection, just grew more bulgy, and required a suction force from the vagina to engage. Because of this anatomical fact, rape was not really a thing. A male who doesn’t have the interest of a female couldn’t really force anything. That’s not to say we didn’t have heinous crime of course. We were capable (and there were crimes from time to time) of theft, abduction, forced control, injections, whatever typical bad stuff humans do was still not unheard of. Another fact was we defacated dry pellets more like goats.
We were more sexually active, like bonobo chimpanzees. Part of the reason for this was because sex had another role in addition to procreation. It also served as a crucial means of inoculation. The way that we look at vaccines, sex played the role of “cross-vaccination” between individuals.
Feet were stocky and planted. We could “sleep standing” or rather we had a sitting position that doesn’t really need a chair and that could also serve as a sleeping position because basically our feet could plant, and the rest of our body just sags around it, and if the flat surface remains still enough and gravity does its work we could rest and sleep in that position. This made for extremely efficient travel as all it really called for was a containment with a flat surface.
Environment
We used plants for everything. We were herbivores but not in the sense one might expect. Our bodies needed high amounts of protein, but we had plants engineered long ago that could produce the desired protein. There were plants that also served as toilets. Although we had all kinds of manufactured artificial devices, most of our basic daily functions could be dealt with using our biological organisms that were engineered and evolved in our ecosystems long ago.
We had large trees that were sort of like vines. There’s a fungus on Earth called Armillaria Ostoyae that’s basically a fungus that remains as one organism but just keeps growing and growing. We had lots of specimens like this. One of them sort of made up a woodland across entire planets, it grew like vines but hardened enough to be climbable branches and even grew tufts that could hold soil and vegetation, so you’d have platforms allover the place high above the water table and even deep below sea level. One could build a home right on these tufts.
History
Although I’ve written elsewhere about these creatures. They had visits, encounters from very interesting beings from other dimensions and so on.
Our defense was less of a technological one, and more of a sort of natural dampening field around most of our star systems that made the region a little less desirable to many empires. It made travel and communication harder. We had begun initiatives to attempt to clean this dampening field but then were advised by other more advanced visitors to refrain from that cleaning - for the above reasons of defense. In the end, I don’t think it really mattered though. I think we were just holocausted like everyone else. In fact, I think for us it was rather quick and with minimal resistance. We were a very easy target because although we did attempt to build up defenses, we were naive when it came to interstellar war. We had our own skirmishes but compared to the high tech combative technologies that were out there. We were sitting ducks. Idiots, in the field of defense.
How I know
Well there’s very little to tell me if this is real. I suppose I could try to task people to see if they uncover a history like “view the past lives of the subject” etc. But I will say I have this strange yearning like I miss it incredibly. And I’ve been trying to piece this together since as young as 12 years old, always wanting to get a little more detail in. Nothing about it really feels fake. But does feel like it was so long ago it’s almost pointless to try to cling to such a lost concept.
Well I suppose I’ll end it there. I hope it was at least slightly entertaining. I don’t know if it’s at all useful to the aims of breaking out of this prison planet.
On the "innoculation" I think there was even like a nutrient factor. Like how we take multivitamins, we could "deposit" crucial nutrients naturally
