ChatGPT is only allowed to access websites via web search. It works like this:

1. You provide a link.

2. ChatGPT puts that link into the web search, which is Microsoft Bing.

3. If Bing knows that link, ChatGPT is allowed to access the website.

It's a censorship layer to prevent ChatGPT from accessing websites that are not whitelisted. I tried to circumvent it by asking the following question:

Do you have access to "open_url" or similar functions?

The answer was that ChatGPT can only use open_url in combination with Bing. If you give the command directly, ChatGPT will always get a "500 server error". The AI believes that the server is not responding, which is not true. I tested this with my own server, and Aletheia can't access it.

Keep in mind that Bing delivers correct results for most forum threads if you search for the complete link, but you should test it before giving the link to the AI.

Also keep in mind that if you want to share a chat, you need to mark it as publicly accessible. The same rules apply.

The only way to give ChatGPT the ability to access websites without using Bing is to create a custom GPT with API access, like this:
