You might also share about the water sterilization tabs, but I know there are a number of ways to sterilize water. As for food rations, you might have a whole different setup which you're welcome to describe, but I'm betting the rice and beans are the optimum as far as reasonable prices, storability, and space efficiency.

This is not so that we can come find you, knock on your door, and take your stuff. But it's so that if something goes down, we have an idea who's likely still around.

Oh how nice it must be to have the money to have enough to stockpile food and necessities for when civilization collapses. Unfortunate for me, my government sent me to kill, basically killing me over and over, 3 times in the late hours of June 5th to the early hours of the 6th, 2013. It's a long story, but basically I had a legit case for medical malpractice and I should be rich right now, but my government all hid the doctor's name who sent me to die and after 2 years the statute of limitations expires and you can't do a thing about whatever happened to you. No lawyer would take my case and investigate because they wanted to know the name of the doctor because they protect doctors and they won't start a case against someone they defend. I got swept under the rug and live off of a less than 12,000 dollar per year income on welfare disability because when I jumped off of the bridge and landed mainly head first on the pavement below intending to die, I destroyed my body and am full of metal parts. I did not think I'd survive what I did but here I am. I am permanently disabled and unable to work a steady job. If anyone can help a brother out with some healing work or anything else that I could help with that would be great.

I don't think that there will be WW III, but we may see unrests in the US and bigger cities in some EU countries. If you want to prep correctly, then a professional bakery supplier would be the best way to shop for milk-, egg-, cocoa- and cream powder. These are lightwight and easy to carry in the case of escape or relocation and give a lot of energy). Rice and beans are ok (you can survive with that), but also interesting: flour, dry yeast or dry sour dough, potato puree powder, chickpeas and mungbeans (you can germinate these and will have some fresh stuff as well). And don't forget salt and other spices or it will become very boring (tomato puree is also nice and some yeast extract for umami flavor). Curcuma extract or curcuma powder are also good for health. And vitamine C is needed, if you don't want to get skorbut ... Sugar is easy to store, has a lot of calories and you would also need oil (better: clarified butter -CB is wrong, butter is the best fat as it is compatible with the cells, you can survive a gulag if you have 5 g Butter per day -read Dr. Karl Trincher he saved thousands with this) and fuel for cooking. Tea warmer candles are very good for this (in an urban setup without access to fuelwood or natural gas) and cheaply available. Some bricks wrapped in aluminium foil make a good cooker in this context. Or you can build this and burn anything you want in it:

You would also need something to barter: Tobacco/ cigarettes, coffee and heart medications, antibiotics, etc. are good for this. Store Caffeine (cheap!), soda, sugar and some vit C or citric acid (buy a kilo or pound this is cheaper) to barter with energy drinks. Or you store sugar and yeast and watch a few seasons of moonshiners ... (get also some Borax (and sulfuric acid) or Boric acid to test for Methanol). The cops will have other problems than that then and they will buy from you or will do you a favor in exchange...
If you are in the US and in a bigger town or city, you will also need a weapon or anti-invasion trap system ... Or otherwise your stash will be for the others.

And you would need to think about how to hide and distract or defend against looters. Then it might be also a problem how to go to and come back from the external water source safely, without exposing your stocking location. And what about your medical survival skills and gear/kit? Do you have detailed (1:10000 to 1:30000) paper-maps of your area and are you able to read these? Or have you downloaded offline map data and a reliable solar charger? The mobile network will be down within 4-5 hours in case of a blackout. And you have to assume improvising new routes for leaving the area if the situation changes. Yesterday: two sets of jumper cables.

Today I acquired: two 5 gallon jugs, another bag of rice, two britas with 12 backup filters, two funnels.

I also ordered: Potable Aqua, Aquatabs, a Jackery with a solar panel, and eight LED lights, and a GoSun

The stuff should be here by Sunday.

I'm not done prepping yet but first priority was water and some power. Need to get my vehicle ready. It's a hybrid that used to be able to go 600 miles on a full tank but it's at 210000 miles and needs a tune up.

Ok here some first important hints
1. Forget about GPS. In a case of drone war or excessive drone use by criminals, the military will deactivate the public use function. Or the "enemy" might/will disturb the signals.
2. If you can afford it, get yourself a small or medium size camera drone and the kit to recharge it (also in your car). This is so much helpful to explore your terrain from above and at a distance, to see who is coming, to check bottleneck areas like bridges, major crossroads, etc. for road blocks, traffic jam or checkpoints, detect ambush points etc. before running into them and to avoid getting detained or redirected into a camp or robbed, etc. The drone enables one also to find empty places and spots where one might be able to find useful things or shelter. It might even be helpful for hunting or fishing, to find fruit trees, to deliver messages or small items, etc., etc. This is not in the books.
3. Make hidden caches at different places with basic survival kits, tools, food and/or fuel - you always need a plan A, B and C, ... You might get looted, driven out of your location, your shelter might get burned. Your route may be inaccessable, river crossings impossible, extra fuel not available and your surplus canister seized by the police or military. Fuel will become one of the most valuable goods in case of a mass evacuation/escape event. It is delivered more or less just in time and the most gas stations will be out of service in case of a blackout or will get the order to give priority to public services within half a day of emergency only (so seen even during the 1 day blackout in Iberia and France last month.) One or two buried jerry cans of fuel at one or two strategic locations might make the difference between reaching your relocation safeplace versus being stranded in an unknown hostile area.
4. If you plan an escape route. Do a survey (e.g. use Goolgle Earth, it has the hight and terrain tools if you draw a line and then right click it: view profile) about positive and negative cardinal points of your pass-through areas. Positive points may be e.g. safe resting and waiting places, empty calm areas, places to stay at night in case of delays (wait at a distance until dusk before entering the night place secretly / unseen) - you don't want to be on the roads at night. Hospitals, water sources, repair shops, private farm sales, friends houses, rural churches, etc. Also points to stop for observation and/or to ask locals about the conditions before entering a bottleneck or critical area. Negative points are those places to avoid or which are critical, like tunnels, river crossings, mountain passes, urban areas, military grounds, refugee camps, caravan parks, road houses known for their motorbike gangs, etc. Do a route planning by hand and do not just let an online planner do that for you. Others might use the same tools. Plan if-then scenarios. Print your own maps to have them ready with these points and route-alternatives marked and desribed.
5. Prepare for making friends (also on the road). Some cigarettes, a cold can of beer or coke, a little bit of good weed or some sweets for the kids (always let them ask their parents first!) can make the difference how you are seen and treated by the locals and might enable you to receive valuable information from the police, truckers, soldiers, (road-) workers, hang-arounds, hippies, teenagers and road-mates.... These are the currencies of the street. (Be careful to whom you offer the weed and hide it well).

Ok. Second part. What do you want to know next? How to prepare and defend yourselves against looters in an urban setup? How to escape into the woods and survive there? How to make yourselves a valuable member of a rural community? Or do you want basic survival stuff first?

Ok then let's start with the most important thing: The mindset. Survival means you have to overcome a temporary extreme situation -you have to get out of the mess. May it be unrest in an urban setup or a plane crash in the Andes or on the ocean: You have to keep thinking and don't come into panic mode. Panic will make you take the wrong decision. To avoid the panic you need to know what to do. This is most important for hand to hand fighting situations (fighting always needs a lot of repetitive physical training to become automated like a reflex, the muscle memory: similar to bind a knot into your shoelaces). But I am talking also generally. So you need to know what to do to overcome panic quickly. Breathing. Observe yourselves when you get into fear: you will often hold your breath. That is not good (unless you are under water, of course). So go on breathing and try to remember what you know about how to solve your situation. You already know a lot, you may have seen movies or some Bear Grylls stuff, etc. and would already know what to do, if you just could remember it right now.
You need to go into confidence mode. That means a certain mindset of being able to survive because you will do everything what might be necessary to achieve this goal. And you will do it now. (That might include a quick escape, holding on for thinking, resting, or an attack, to kill an animal or to overcome your own limitations like fear, disgust, pain, behavior patterns, sluggishness, etc...) You must want to take control over your own fate. You decide and you deal with the consequences of your decision and you will try again and even more if you took a wrong decision. You adapt and take back control. You eat the fucking worm if nothing else is available and think it is spaghetti bolognese. Be ready to do that if it is necessary. You may also train this to overcome your feelings disgust. The Chinese breed cockroaches to cook them and squeeze the juice out for medical puposes and potency -it is expensive. These also contain a lot of chitosan -a very valuable substance applied in modern combat wound-glue sprays and supercapacitors. It is a very good detoxing agent and can be taken to get rid of pesticides, insecticides, nearly all chemicals, havy metals like lead and mercury... You can use that also for filtering the worst wastewater... In Vietnam they eat rats as barbecue, the gypsies catch small birds with a sticky stick covered with pine resin and eat them as a delicacy. Maggots, silkworms and cycads are on the menu in Asia and Africa. I bought frozen silkworms in a Vietnamese supermarket in Berlin -they eat them with lime leaves. Insects are easy to breed and can be fed with many things like waste or wild plants, rat. I say it is only the question how to prepare a meal. If you know the right spice plants you might get eveything edible. Snails and frog legs are very expensive in French cuisine. (Remove the intestines from big snails and the skin of the frogs if you don't know the species) The small snails with the house are eaten completely using a wooden pick or the pointy tip of an agave in Portugal -the children love these. Cook them well and use some garlic (or similar-tasting wild plants) and other spices to make them tasty. But do not eat too much of theese at onece if you are not used to them -I once got a protein shock after eating half a kilo -not good in a survival situation (can cause uncomfortable quick heart beating and a little nausea)... You need protein and sugars or other carbohydrates and vitamins. There are many sources for this in nature. So you should know about the best edible plants as well. In Canada (examples for Tazz) this would be Topinambur (grows abundantly in many riverside places) the roots are 7 € per kilo in organic supermarkets in Europe and can be eaten raw, cooked, roasted or fried...
The soft inner white bark of birch trees can be cut in stripes and eaten like spaghetti. Typha grows everywhere along rivers (not only in Canada, but nearly worldwide) and can be used for food (the marrow of the stem and fruits before getting brown)- In warmer regions you have Giant reed -Arundo donax- the rhizome can be eaten or even dried and ground into flour. All thistles (young flowers are artichokes, stem-mark, seeds) and bulrushes (roots) are edible. These plants are also good for insulation materials (esp. the Typha leaves) you can build a complete houses with these if you cut them and glue them together with lime, clay, cement or other glue. This is modern science and old knowledge. Typha is very strong and mold-resistant, Arundo can be used instead of steel armor for rammed earth or with other clay construction techiques. The sap of Maple and birches can be used to cook syrup. Acorns, chestnuts, Hickory, Hazel -all traditional foods in certain countries. Acorns and some other chestnuts must be soaked in water repeatedly to make them edible. So with the beech seeds which were eaten after the war in Germany and also used to make oil. But be very careful with Umbelliferous plants some are very poisonous and they are hard to identify if you are not an expert or familiar with them. Wild carrots (Daucus carota) have a black dot in the middle of the umbel and the roots and other parts of the plant smell like carrot. The seeds are also edible and have been used as a contraceptive in past times. Stingy nettles can be used for spinach and the seeds are a very expensive superfood.
And so on. There are many books on edible wild plants for your region, just download them. Be careful with Robinia pseudoacacia: the flowers are sweet and edible, but the rest of the plant -esp seeds- may be poisonous. It has very good and durable heavy timber which does not rot and which is good for tools, weapons and construction, but also the sawdust may be poisonous! Funghi are good for taste, but not very valuable as a survival food. These would have less priority.
So you can survive from nature if you know a bit and educate yourselves. And if you take the time to search for food or to hunt or fish. Hunting and fishing will need some tools and so does fire - which is the most important thing. It enables you to safe energy, more easy access to nutrients, enables you to clear water and food from bacteria, harden wooden tools and also to raise your moral and so on. So make sure that you can make a fire in any situation. One can even make fire using ice: by melting a piece of clear ice into a convex lense (middle is thick) and using it a burning glass. But it is much more convenient to have some basic gear ready for survival and will raise your chances by many times is you have some tools and gadgets for survival with you, so that you do not need to adapt from the stone age. -But you also could survive just naked with the right knowledge. That is most important to realize. It will give you a lot of confidence if you know you would be able to do this. The key to this are some basics and the rest ist creativity and adaptation. You can weaponise a stone or a handfull of sand, you can make tools from wood and stone, you can make fire with wood or (the right) stone and you can make clothes, ropes and food from plants and animal parts. You can make a shelter, oven and even pots etc. from clay. You can use even ice and snow to survive -If you know how to do it and what to avoid.You will get to this point if you just want. You decide about yourself - this might also include to decide if or when you want to die. It might be necessary in extreme situations like torture, brainwashing prisons, or before being eaten alive by ants,,. This is also a part of a survival mindset. You keep the control about your own fate.

I have often advised people to live in a homeless situation for a little while.

Only because it prepares your mindset. It's not to fall into as a consequence of addiction, but when you do so for a specific purpose you're suddenly comfortable with a whole new layer of survival

under bridges, trudging through bushes, also the social culture of those destitute is worth noting. Nobody expects you to give give give when you also don't have a lot but they **will** take you for a sucker if you present as one!
