Okay, let's define propaganda first:

Propaganda is communication that is primarily used to influence or persuade an audience to further an agenda, which may not be objective and may be selectively presenting facts to encourage a particular synthesis or perception, or using loaded language to produce an emotional rather than a rational response to the information that is being presented.

- Not objective means subjective, which means it can deviate from the truth.
- Selectively presenting facts means lying by omission. Facts are hold back so people can't make an informed decision.
- Appealing to emotions to prevent a rational response is psychic manipulation.

Just telling the truth isn't propaganda.

According to Courtney, social sciences is the cutting edge science in the galaxy. But what do they study? There's two possibilities:

1. The reaction of people to truth.
2. The reaction of people to lies.

Then there's the social engineers who want to use social science to control people. They want to shape societies in order to achieve a goal that couldn't be achieved by individuals. This can be done with truth and lies. So let's compare societies that are built on these foundations in principle:

1. The society built on truth

It starts with the truth about what the individual is. Its nature. How can the individual be affected through information to do or not do certain things? How does a belief system work? In a society built on truth, the social scientists would teach people how propaganda and psychic manipulation works, so the people can defend themselves. The goal is individual freedom. If the individual isn't free, the society can't be free, because individuals are the foundation of societies.

This boils down to one simple rule: A free society doesn't enforce membership.

2. The society built on lies

It starts with lies about what the individual is. Specific lies about the nature of individuals, like, people are inherently good or bad, for instance. This is called framing. There's no free will of the individual. You already belong to a group just by existence. The goal is to make people accept their "lot in life", and to create societies where some people have more "rights" than others. This has nothing to do with rights, but with privilege, which is used to control behavior. The free will of the individual doesn't count, because the group "owns" the individual.

This boils down to one simple rule: An unfree society does enforce membership, either through direct violence, or deception.

Unfree societies are always built on fear, because the leaders of those societies fear to lose the members they want to own, and they fear being owned themselves. Because of this fear, they are willing to lie and deceive, as if truth would enslave them if they didn't control society.

Let's break it down further:
Propaganda: Latin "propagare" = to spread
first used in the church context: propaganda fide - to spread the belief
It is adressing the masses, not just a single individual.
In a more modern context it is about how to shape the perception of the masses.
We filter our sensory peceptions through our belive system/expectations how (our individual) reality "normally" looks like. This done by comparing the existing schemes with what we get as sensory impressions from our environment. Ther can be a match or a mismatch. If there is a match, then we reinforce that scheme. If it is a mismatch then we get aroused, may have fear or will dismiss it. Or we might go through a learning process to create a new scheme or remodify the scheme. That is positive. If we cannot create a new scheme or bring the impression into any other existing scheme, then we will avoid or dismiss that impression.
We have many different types of schemes already built from our childhood on. Like how to tie a shoelace (you do not think about it, you just do it). Object schemes (house, tree, etc.), behavior schemes (attack, flee, shout, cry, ...), personality schemes (student, grandma, ...) and so on. The earlier a scheme has been created and the more often there had been a match, the more often it will be used to compare again. A match is always positive confirmation that what the scheme says is right...
So we shape our reality through the existing schemes and evaluate everything against these. We cannot be somehow "neutral" evething we percieve passes the scheme-filter before it comes into our reality. The power to change the schemes means power to shape the people's (percieved) realties.
Propaganda is actually the way to create certain schemes within the masses. Through fear and scheme incongruencies (attention for the message) and through repetition, best done in early childhood (school, prayers, religious indoctrination, "tradition", Hitler Youth, Communist Pioneers, Media: Russia, Russia, Russia; ...).

Farsight is trying to implement (among others) the schemes that RV is possible and helpful into a wider audience/humanity. That is propaganda.
Now we may discuss whether they have the right approaches for the goals.- Or if they should adapt the methods.

I disagree. It's an invitation to scientific endeavor.

For example, imagine some people advocating for a mission to Mars where they want to build a space colony, based on the premise that it's not only possible, but would also be helpful to humanity. It's not propaganda to advocate for that possibility. But it becomes propaganda if that possibility is framed as if the question "Is it helpful?" has already been answered. The truth is: We don't know yet.

Being honest about the possibilities and premises is crucial. Everything else is dogma, or can become one.

But Farsight does indeed do something that could be called propaganda: The narrative that the ETs who are helping them are the good guys. I haven't seen evidence of this at all, because all they do so far is just talking.

But there's one interesting point: They don't want to play the credentials game, which the bad guys love to play. Interesting. Then let's get rid of the term "good ETs", because we don't know yet what they are. Let's judge them by their actions, not how they are called or what words they are using.

My 2 cents:

In the end, frankness and transparency have been the life lessons I have learned.

When abide to they lead to good outcome through fast failures and getting back on track quick.

When not adhered to these lead to lies that need maintenance and coverup, and ultimately catastrophic corrections.

So just start frankness and transparency at what ever point in time it is, that will lead the least painful transition and then the social system moves forward smoothly.

The issue here is that we can't fire or diverse an ISBE, as we would in most current human social structures, so now we need psychotherapy to learn to keep the social structure together... enter social science and engineering!

1) validate peoples concerns, feeling and emotions, then stop there.
2) first seek to understand, then to be understood, then stop there.
3) work to a place of synergy while seeking to understand and validate each other
4) work on the skills of the above 3 (sharpen the sword)

These are core aspects of psychotherapy and social engineering and governance, that I have so far gathered. I'm sure there is more to it but wanted to build a key theoretical core structure. It is the issues that arise in step 2 & 3 that get individuals in a social structure all twisted around an axel. So keep seeking to understand if any frustration or disagreements arise. At some point synergy will start, that is the fun part, when a true partnership begins. (Chris Voss is great at this with hostage negotiations in "Never Split the Difference")

Well, that's what the term meant back in the day, but the meaning has shifted. It's like the term "anarchy" – initially it was a positive word describing the absence of slavery, which is its literal meaning – but the connotation shifted into a negative meaning, and now most people hear "absence of order" when they hear anarchy.

This is a really good example of negative social engineering: Why did people change their minds regarding anarchy? Because long term propaganda is being used to discredit the term. The propagandists began to teach it differently, and they also tell lots of fictional stories in books and movies that connect anarchy to the idea of chaos and violence.

A good example is the "Purge" movies, depicting anarchy as marauding criminals, and human nature as inherently evil. That's emotional manipulation. It's a lie. Maurauding criminals aren't anarchists, but anomists. But today nobody knows what anomy is, while everybody knows what autonomy is. Because they don't teach this in schools anymore.

An = no
archy = rulership (in the sense of slavery, that's why archons are bad)
nomy = order (from greek νόμος, nómos)

Nowadays they teach that nómos is man-made law, which is wrong. Nomos initially meant order in a natural sense, while the word for man-made law was "thesis". This is what Stoicism initially was all about. When the archons redefined the terms, the stoics resisted. That's why to this day being stoic still means being resistant.

This shows us: A lot of social engineering works through language. Words are being redefined, stories are being told differently. That's why they suppress telepathy. Because it's easier to manipulate with words.
