It's likely that the strategy is war with explosives. But the explosives are not fierce enough to bring nuclear winter, or deep enough to rip earth's innards into the sky (magma winter) ... but I just bet that if you can get enough crater-producing explosions in the right places ... you will manage to literally blow the top off the secret underground cities.

Yeah, there are underground cities, but the only reason for wars is looshing, unless it's between ET races fighting over this planet since it is a nexus planet. And yes, maybe underground cities were ways humanity hid from them but now...not so sure. Phil Schneider was making those tunnels with the boring machine he invented when they ran into Ets or maybe they were born here but either way they were living under ground. What other reason would races live underground and build cities? How would they not know if that would end up being their graves when some cataclysm or event shifts the earth radically like it has done before in pole shifts. I feel like the earth grows, like everything it expands. Like all the land use to be together but now it's like a jigsaw puzzle. The middle east wars are over those stargates left there, ancient tech. There may be some underground cities there but these are mostly over those stargates, and there are organic portals there as well.
