A recent AI video I made had a protester hold a sign saying "rent is riot". That is an interesting choice of words. I did not pick any of it. And I do not believe AI is just being random, but operating on unique intuition.
Anyhow, the concept that it reinforces is the idea as Alex Collier's Andromeda a put it (real or imagined I don't know): "why would you pay to live on your home planet?" (something to that effect)
But it's adding an operational component. Keep charging rent and it welcomes more riots.
And I mean think about it. "Residents" pay rent to a landlord, the landlord pays rent to the city, the city pays rent to the "government" and the "government" pays rent to the "Crown" (omg the rabbit holes the "crown" leads to once you realize it doesn't refer to a royal hat). And what does the "crown" do? Pockets it. That's it. Nothing else. Not real money they can produce any amount they want, but still it's just an energy siphoning system.
Well . . . if people realize that rent itself is the theft that can fuel quite a stir. Especially if they're forced to decide between rent or food and thinking "wait a minute. Why am I being forced into decisions like this in the first place?"
