| DEPATTERNING :: FARSIGHT USAGE AND DEFINITION |
+================================================+
TERM ::
Depatterning
WORKING DEFINITION ::
In the Farsight-related context, "depatterning" is used to refer to the
systematic erasure or breakdown of a person's identity, memory, and
stable psychological structure through extreme conditioning, in order to
make reprogramming easier.
WHY THIS THREAD EXISTS ::
This term is used differently here than in therapeutic or
transpersonal literature, so I am noting its differences.
BROADER USE OF THE TERM ::
In therapeutic and transpersonal literature, "depatterning" generally
refers to identifying and dissolving rigid or maladaptive psychological
patterns so that a person can function with greater flexibility,
awareness, and integration.
In that broader sense, depatterning is aimed at release from limiting
conditioning.
FARSIGHT-RELATED USE ::
Here, the term leans toward a more coercive sense of its usage.
Instead of meaning the release of maladaptive patterning, it opposes the status quo to mean the forced breakdown of identity and memory through extreme conditioning so that a person can be more easily reshaped, reprogrammed, or controlled.
DISTINCTION ::
These meanings differ from therapeutic literature ( e.g., Stanislave Grof )
BROADER / THERAPEUTIC USE ::
dissolving limiting patterns in order to increase awareness and
flexibility
FARSIGHT-RELATED USE ::
erasing or destabilising identity and memory in order to facilitate
control or reprogramming
WHAT THE TERM DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN HERE ::
It does NOT automatically mean therapeutic release, healing,
integration, or self-exploration.
RELATED TERMS ::
brainwashing
coercive persuasion
psychological reprogramming
memory wiping
identity erasure
conditioning
