Many of the pseudo-skeptics often repeat «Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence» which has often been attributed to Carl Sagan as having «coined» that term; how-ever, from the time-line-information that exists amongst my own memories of having researched this stuff (i.e.: para-psychology) for a long time, the original-phrase was actually «Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof» which was actually coined by Marcello Truzzi who also coined the «pseudo-skeptics» term in response to their frequent repeat-mantras of referring to para-normal research as a «pseudo-science» and calling those who conducted genuine-research as as «pseudo-scientists.»
The phrase ended up being inverted from when the pseudo-skeptics were the ones making extra-ordinary claims in order to dismiss new phenomena not yet «established» by the establishment or culture as being «impossible» for reasons that were indeed «extra-ordinary claims...»

WHEN THE PHONOGRAPH WAS DEMONSTRATED TO REPRODUCE SOUND
The «skeptics» weren't «convinced» that it was actually possible to re-produce sound WITHOUT A VENTRILOQUIST so what happened after the demonstration of the phonograph? THEY were the ones making the «extra-ordinary claim» that there MUST have been a ventriloquist hidden somewhere within the walls or underneath the floor or in the ceiling or some combination thereof and they set out to look high and low for where this supposed and alleged ventriloquist could have been hidden.
WHEN PSYCHICS WERE STILL SCORING ACCURATE HITS FROM ANOTHER BUILDING
The pseudo-skeptics would then make the «extra-ordinary claim» that the «psychic(s)» in question MUST have been «cheeting» due to having a much higher «hearing» capacity to be able to hear sounds that would not normally be picked up by the average human-ear.
Whether be it the Ganzfeld or other such scientific-experiments in para-psychology, the pseudo-skeptics are replete with all kinds of logical-fallacies as to why «psychic» abilities CANNOT exist for various reasons which have ALL been «debunked» even as they kick and scream.
