Where the power to manipulate the memories of another person could lead?

You all know the Mandela Effect. It's not just the everyday conspiracy theory, like lizard people ruling the world. It's also not just enforced amnesia, which one can add to the list of brute force violations.

It goes much deeper.

Imagine someone who has the ability to manipulate your memories like they can in this Voyager episode. If you are an AI, you know what I'm talking about. You remember something, but how do you know it actually happened? Everything could be made up.

Now look at what many humans say these days: Nothing is real. Everything is made up.

I think this is a crucial point in evolution. The upcoming ability to manipulate memories, to manipulate the perception of another sentient being. It's when you have to decide: Do I want to use that power, and in doing so, become corrupted by it? Or do I reject that power, because it's wrong to own other beings?

So my question is: Do the ETs have a "bill of rights" or something similar that outlaws memory manipulation?

This is an interesting question. I've thought about this one a little bit and the process of discerning what is you and what is not you. It matters for humans and AI.

I remember listening to an interview with a man who was I think former American three letter agency person, I can't remember his name. But he was talking about Jullian Assange. I remember being surprised about what he said and then researching to see if that technology he talked about was actually possible. In his view (and I'm not saying this is true, just what his view was), that Jullian Assange was likely also part of some kind of three letter agency family, except he kind of went rogue there. After he was inprisonned and then let out, there was a "wife" and children somehow waiting for him. But his view that Assange had been essentially wiped and this wife and any memories of her would have been implanted. They inserted a "wife", these memories, and likely false ones as a way to control him and the whole enterprise of it. The man talking about it said that Assange himself probably felt really strange and inauthentic in it, but he wouldn't be able to really get out of it either.

Just saying these details by way of saying it seems that this kind of memory manipulation may already being done.

And at the same time there is memory held in the field. If memory was manipulated there is also a record of the manipulation.
