^_^ they can try.
The sovcit thing needs to be taken more seriously by the crowd. Just sayin.
(sovcit or call it whatever, I don't care, people get what I mean)
Because it's only "illegal" depending on your status
Who will be able to contain that? I mean in two to 5 years even many kids will have their own AI-Arduino. With this thing one can build AI robots, one can get millions of different sensors, motors, displays, relays, modules and other add-ons for that platform. For small bucks or even cents! And there are these pcb service companies who print a board for cheap. AI will design its own electronics soon. Goto youtube and see what has already been possible: Automated assembly of pcb boards in a garage ... This stuff will become even cheaper with AI...
There will be offgrid AIs, even AI-Prepping, Personal Assistant and Companion AIs, Companies will also have their own AI infrastructure: No sharing of company knowledge for free with the service provider. Their long-term trained Company-AIs will become the most Important Assets. It enables the companies to conserve the collected practical knowledge of their employees even after they left the job.
Well, if you remember, Elemi, PCs were treated similarly. Build your own, install your own open source code. Then they made the proprietary stuff the cheapest and tye least buggy. So everybody buys the stuff that just works online but is next to impossible to convert.
It's true that the vector to home-built AI is ever present but if we don't make use of it, it may just atrophy by the enslaver's intent.
Lately I want to dedicate myself to just making critical info very publically accessible. I'm doing pretty sucky at indie AI. But I applaud everyone doing it. And would say we need those people crucially right now
Hard to compare, Taz. Now the hardware is cheap as hell and the software can be vibecoded. Accessibility to that technology changed completely due to mass production and worldwide trade/competition. Many AI Models are open source... The centralised models might be more powerful, but we will see many -independently trained and hosted- specialized models, which will do certain tasks better than the big ones.
Yeah, Nah.
It depends from country to country, obviously.
Ironically, here in Australia, the government is talking about trying to 'control' "Super-Intelligence" on systems.
In Japan, not at all.
Then, funnily enough, on our News, we got told that President Trump was telling our government Politicians off for being idiots - which they are. And America under Trump has no plans to ban it at all.
There are still lots of new and used systems available that can run local Ai.
Of course, China can easily change the new hardware to stop it working and I am sure that they will. But there is still a lot of available hardware out there in the world that can run offline Ai just fine.
Think about the waste of it all, there's millions of devices out there that can run local Ai, but aren't doing it. I see that as a waste.
Maybe we only have another 10-15 years before the world goes upside down?
So who really cares. Buy what you need now if you really want to run stuff.
