I bought a couple of more bottles of potable aqua tablets today, just on the chance the grid goes down and the water pumps don't work for a while.

I had some already along with other stuff but I think it's time to get serious about getting restocked.

Let's say you live in an urban Northeast area. I can't exactly go hunting for my food very easily. How do you prepare for when the power just shuts off one day, the communications don't work, and the stores are closed.

I estimate I have 15-30 days of extra food right now. I have some basic charging units for small devices. Water seems to be the main concern.

I also wonder about heat. I was kind of hoping the shutdown would happen during Northern Hemisphere summer, but the odds now are increasing again for it happening during winter. How do you stay warm if gas isn't coming?

Lots going on with these boards right now but I think we need to start taking prep seriously. After the first week of November, everything starts getting very complicated, very fast.

Lifestraws might be good for water, too (about 15$ atm https://www.amazon.com/LifeStraw-Personal-Camping-Emergency-Preparedness/dp/B006QF3TW4). Amazon Prime Day is coming up in early October, so it might be good for getting any "extra" stuff.
The Jackery generator Courtney had in his video (there's a 250w and a 300w explorer) can also run heating pads for a pretty long while (~40 watts per hour for a pad, so you could get 5-7 hours or more out of it.). The refurbed explorer 300 is on Amazon for 156$. At the very least, they may be useful for people dealing with noreaster issues as well.
(Edit: Anker C300 and EcoFlow River are good, newer battery alternatives).
The video also had a Zoupw 100w panel, but another really reliable option are the Renogy panels. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D12RJXBQ) On sale they're ~80$ for 100w. You can also charge devices directly off the panel via usb if need be.

A solar panel and battery storage is what you need in an urban area emergency case -if you want to die or getting robbed. The light at night and the panel during daytime will show to the hungry where your stashes are...
For the price of that battery -which will be old and outdated soon, may get a short I cannot repair, may be forgotten to reload, etc. ... -I would get the best stainless steel multi-fuel, including camping gas, cooker and a nice stash of these gas cans. And I would save the money for a much better (Katadyn https://www.katadyngroup.com/us/en/2010000-katadyn-pocket-water-filter~p6695) water filter, foldable canisters and a gun with a night vision scope/device and silencer. Some Oil, sugar, milk powder, cocoa, and other high energy, long shelf life-stuff, some flour and dry yeast as a starter culture... and some escape and "organizing" tools/gear...

According to this you just wrap copper with zinc like a helix and leave it in a jar for an hour?
