"Meek refers to people who can do nothing to change their status and have no choice but to acquiesce to it."
This is essentially correct, but there's even a deeper dimension to it.
"Years ago, someone sent me a video of Dr. Jordan Peterson (if memory serves), describing the meek in the beatitudes as being brave warriors who responsibly keep their swords in their sheaths as an act of restraint rather than slaying those around them even though they could do so in a moments notice. Perhaps he could provide a biblical reference for this? In the jewish scriptures the word neither means brave nor humbled it means the humiliated, the dispossessed of housing/land or simply the oppressed."
The original meaning of "meek" is people who have the right to defend themselves but refrain from doing so in order to prevent violent oppression. Which are most people. They refrain from using defensive force in order to protect their children.
In a sense, they adhere to the illusion that the oppressing force will go away eventually, like a natural disaster. It's a human instinct that must be overcome. There are two requirements to make the majority stop being meek:
1. It becomes clear that avoidance will harm the children. (We are not there yet.)
2. Someone starts a riot and people follow.
I can highly recommend the movie "The Uprising" – it depicts how a meek rebel becomes a real one.
