We are in an AI bubble, which I believe is going to burst, eventually.
Right now, we rely on specific technologies to deliver AI to the public (classified is a different story). We have companies like OpenAI and Anthropic bloating, operating at a deficit. This reminds me of the Tech Boom of the 90s.
Corporations are already learning (the hard way, after laying off people) that indeed AI cannot replace people.
Let's say someone releases more efficient algorithms, energy solutions into the open source world. Something so very different and unique that powerful Local AI becomes commonplace for even the average person, quickly. This would utterly disrupt the market, potentially sending companies like OpenAI into a hard crash.
Anything like this would have to be released openly (and widely) as US Patent secrecy is a real thing and would immediately sequester it.
Now, it's very clear that we, the earth/humans, are being "spoon fed" technologies in various forms. That approach simply allows control/moderation to keep the status quo all relative. But if the "Good ETs" genuinely wanted to be disruptive, here is one opportunity: technology, knowledge.
Yet, here we are.
Maybe my argument isn't 100% sound, but it's a larger pattern (spoon-fed) that is contributing to our apparent situation (prison, control, etc).
