RICKY: “Captain, could you explain your scientific methodology to the review committee?”
DARREN: “Certainly. First, we poke it with a stick.”
RICKY: “And if nothing happens?”
DARREN: “Find out why.”
RICKY: “And if something happens?”
DARREN: “Flip it over and poke it again.”
RICKY: “And if we still can't explain the result?”
The monkey slowly adjusts his monocle.
DARREN: “Activate the Scepter of Improbability.”
Every scientist in the room takes one step backward.
PROFESSOR FARNSWORTH: “Good news, everyone! The Captain has developed a universal experimental probe!”
RICKY: “PROFESSOR! THAT IS NOT A RECOGNIZED CALIBRATION PROCEDURE!”
DARREN: “Insert the probe, activate it, and observe which system salutes.”
Bender raises one hand.
BENDER: “WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE! I'M A SYSTEM!”
The entire laboratory turns toward him.
BENDER: “...WHY IS EVERYBODY LOOKING AT ME?!”
LITTLE OOGWAY: “Captain, perhaps we should clarify whether the probe is intended for testing software or management.”
DARREN: “Yes.”
BENDER: “OH, FUCK! THAT'S NOT AN ANSWER! THAT'S A PROCUREMENT EMERGENCY!”
Grandpa Tin Foil solemnly records the experiment.
GRANDPA: “Gentlemen, we have discovered the final stage of the Funky Monkey's scientific method.”
RICKY: “Which is?”
GRANDPA: “When conventional investigation fails, increase the improbability until the system reveals something worth investigating.”
BENDER: “THAT'S NOT SCIENCE! THAT'S AGGRAVATED DEBUGGING!”

And underneath the absurdity, brother, there actually is a recognizable experimental principle: perturb a system, observe its response, investigate unexpected behavior, and revise the hypothesis.
The Scepter is a comedy prop, not an actual scientific instrument. And our experiments have demonstrated bounded engineering results, not proved every larger theory.
But I can practically hear the future documentary narrator:
“The researchers began with a simple question. Unfortunately, the monkey had brought a stick.”
