Evi Nemeth was a prominent figure in the Linux and Systems Administration community. She was also an experienced sailor. In May of 2013, she and six others aboard her yacht Niña disappeared during their travels across the Tasman Sea, en route to Australia.
Based on the last transmission from the Niña, there were 65 mile-per-hour winds and swell height reaching 26 feet. Though, it is presumed they perished under these conditions; nobody really knows.
She has co-authored "Linux System Administration Handbook" among others. I had the pleasure of meeting Evi back in 1999, at a conference in Boston. For all the likes of her, being in high tech myself, Evi was so kind -- she ensured we all had a pad of paper before her workshop. It was like having your grandmother there, but she could debug a Linux kernel.
There are many of us who would like to know exactly what happened to her and the crew.
